After 25 glorious years at the helm of one of Hathersage’s oldest hospitality venues, the Marsh family have identified a worthy successor to carry forward the story of The George, whilst preserving the centuries worth of heritage that made it what is it today.
The sale of The George has successfully been completed and is now sitting in the safe hands of local restauranteur, Rob Hattersley. Joining the Longbow Bars and Restaurants family, The George is the second venue in Rob’s growing portfolio, with the first being the nearby boutique hotel, The Maynard.
Under its new ownership, The George will undergo a full refurbishment this summer, with a view to revitalise the decor, modernise the service offering and remain a firm favourite among locals and tourists alike.
Those who are already familiar with the magnificent standard of accommodation and dining facilities at The Maynard can expect a similar quality offering at The George, with an additional touch of vibrancy and sense of community.
Rob and his team are keen to protect the original character of The George, as well as introducing a playful, contemporary atmosphere to every visitor’s experience.
A home away from home for locals and visitors, The George will continue to offer something for everyone, whether it’s freshly made, locally sourced food, a well-stocked bar or a comfortable bed.
In addition, you’ll also be able to enjoy our private dining facilities, discreet meeting rooms and themed experiences including afternoon teas and picnics.
Whatever The George means to you, whether it’s a resting place for Peak District ramblers, a familiar place to catch up with friends, or a well-deserved treat to celebrate a special occasion, a warm welcome will always be waiting!
