WHO IS "GEORGE"?
The origin of this eponymous name is uncertain, but might simply have been the name of the original owner, although latterly it was attributed to the reigning monarch, King George; take your pick. Whatever, the current "George" is in fact an Eric: Eric Marsh has been proprietor of The George since 1996 and is a hotelier of over 50 years’ experience who still supervises the operation of his hotel supported by his wife Liz and their four children.
