Indulge with George…

In a 500 year old building, you might expect beams, but George definately keeps up with modern times – low lighting, contemporary colours and design all combine to create atmosphere. Add to that modern British cooking and you start to understand the feel of George’s restaurant. The food is all about simplicity and freshness; Chef Helen Heywood’s approach has always been focused on flavours, fresh ingredients and innovation.

If we can make it, we will. From bread to marmalade, jams to relishes, ice creams and petit fours to pasta. This dedication to homemade excellence has brought the George recognition from those who set the standard in the hotel industry, including the AA in the form of our first rosette as far back as 1997, followed by two in 2000 which have been maintained ever since and have recently been reconfirmed for 2011.

Formality is not on the menu! Having said that, you would expect that there would be no dress code (and there isn’t really), but we do expect smart/casual dress – George will ask that T-shirts or trainers be changed for something a little smarter.
